He was from Friedenstein in the Crimea at the time of his immigration in 1873 per the diary of Tobias B. Unruh (#103897). At one time he reportedly lived in Sparrau, Molotschna. Dietrich and Maria were married for 70 years. 1911 Canada census says he was born Apr 1845.He was from Friedenstein in the Crimea at the time of his immigration in 1873 per the diary of Tobias B. Unruh (#103897). Family records the marriage date as 18 May 1869 n.s. At one time he reportedly lived in Sparrau, Molotschna. He was a devout follower of Menno Simons, beginning his career as a teacher and preacher in Russia. A scarlet fever epidemic claimed their two first two little daughters shortly before they emigrated. They first settled in the Silver Lake area in South Dakota where a parcel of land had been reserved for them in the earlier settlement land purchased by an earlier immigrant Unruh family. It was here that the influence of the fragmentation that was resulting from the fervent religious spiritual renewal movements had significant impact in the new immigrants from Russia. The Neufelds invited a colporteur, Mr. Conradi from Battle Creek, Michigan to have supper and stay the night only to discover this man did not eat pork. According to his grand daughter, Ruth (Feyerabend) Brucks, Dietrich's ministry on occaision included North Dakota as a Mennonite Preacher, but when he formally joined the Seventh Day Adventist movement, it became necessary for him to leave his South Dakota property and by train the family (children Dietrich, Jacob, Agnetta, Eva, John and Sara) migrated north to the Rosthern area in the North West Territories of Canada. . He was an early convert to the Seventh Day Adventist movement and there are some South Dakota references that sugges he was personally trained by them in New York for leadership that in subsequent history had major influence on the explosive growth of the the Seventh Day Adventists around the world. As pioneer homesteaders they had various periods of residence in North Dakota before and after settlement in 1893 on the site that later became the Town of Waldheim, Saskatchewan. Dietrich and his two older sons each established homesteads at this location sixteen miles west of Rosthern on the old trader's Fish Creek - Battleford trail that was used between the South and North Saskatchewan Rivers. Their first homes were the covered wagon boxes inverted and mounted on a pole at each of the four corners. Maria became the first nurse and midwife in the area and over the years was present at the more than eighty child-births. Two sons, Dietrich (D.D.) and John became Adventist ministers of significance and daughter Anna, who had trained as a nurse had the son Henry Jr. Feyerabend that was present to the transitions of the Seventh Day Adventist ministry into the Satellite Age of global teaching ministries. When Diedrich 'D.D.' Neufeld's wife, Maria Spenst died, Bertha was only a few days old. So, Dietich D. 4120 Abe Dyck of Winnipeg believes that in all probability Gerhard is the father of Gerhard Neufeld, b. 6 July 1857. His argument is based on the fact of them both living in Kronsthal, and the reality that most families named a child after the father (see "Gerhard Neufeld Family Genealogy", notes prepared by Abe Dyck). EWZ records say he was born 1 Dec 1835. Gerhard Neufeld

4166 Johann married twice because his first wife died from severe oil burns when a lamp exploded on her. His two wives were cousins and each gave him ten children but only seven from each lived. Further, I am not sure at this point as to the order of the children. They come in this order from Abram A. Wall who is the son of Helena, but he lists his mother as the youngest from the first wife and yet puts a son after her. So I've put the son previous to Helena. He gives Johann's birth as 1848; J.J. In September 1996 Esther Neufeld Ramsey wrote, "Johann was interested in emigrating to America in 1872. He and Anna were only 22 years of age, fairly newly married, and the thought of going to a new unknown country must have seemed a chance for adventure. But it would be another two years before they would be ready to leave. Johann's brother, Aaron, a boy of 14 or 15 in 1873, would also go to the United States some years later. Johann and Anna Neufeld's second son, Franz, was born the 26 of April in 1874.
This was the year of the largest emigrations to the United States, and likely Johann was thinking that it was time to begin making plans for him and family. It would take some time to get the required papers and passports required to leave the country. Finally the time came to actually get ready to leave. What would they keep and what would be left behind. Many a treasured object was sold the public auction before departure in those days! (Anna's mother also went to the United States but whether at this time or later in not known.) Then there was the food to prepare for the long journey. If Anna did as many of the other immigrants did, she baked and roasted sacks of 'Zwieback'. These dry buns were later soaked in coffee and maybe sprinkled with sugar before being eaten. Also hams were boiled, wrapped in a sheet of dough and baked in the oven. There were so many things t done to get ready. Finally, to top things off, a baby girl was born to Johann and Anna on the 5th of June, 1885, just about a month before they were due to leave. The time came to say 'good-bye' to those who were left behind. Would they ever see each other again? It was now sometime in late June or early in July when Johann and Anna, with 14 month old Franz and baby Anna, together with a number of other families, boarded the train and crossed Europe to Antwerp, Belgium. Here they boarded the "State of Nevada" and set sail for New York City where they landed on the 5th of August 187
As most of the emigrants, they had traveled steerage and were very thankful to get off the ship. Thirteen families had arrived at Mountain Lake, Minnesota in 1873, four more families in 1874, and now in ^a T5 two larger groups arrived. Johann and his family arrived with the last group in August. As they left the train they were directed to a shed, which had recently been erected for the newcomers. Here they stayed until they could secure a home of their own. What a change from the well-built red tile roofed buildings and green fields they had left back home. Mountain Lake was barely a village at this time. There was a shack with a few patent medicines, a few houses and cabins. A trapper, Wm. Mason, and his wife, who built a cabin on the island in the 900-acre lake northeast of the village, named the place. The island was about 45 feet above the lake. A considerable amount of the land around Mountain Lake was already settled but Johann did get an 80 acre homestead, the S l/2 SE 1/4 34-107-35, in Dolton township, Cottonwood County. Their post office was Bingham Lake. He built a 20'x 28' brick house and a 20'x 20' stable. Most likely those bricks were homemade. By the time he received his American citizenship on the 8th of July, 1884. He had improved 30 acres and had planted an acre of trees. He received the patent to this homestead on the 15th of January, 1885.
The USA Homestead Act of 1862 demanded that for every 160-acre claim, a pioneer had to plant 10 acres of trees. Forty acres of sod had to be turned and planted and a dwelling had to be built within a time space of three years. It was not easy for these early settlers to get started. A number of prairie fires swept through the country, destroying crops and in many instances, buildings. In 1876, when the wheat was up and looking good, the grasshoppers came and destroyed the crops. The following year the farmers wondered whether or not to seed. Some did not while others seeded as much as possible.
The grasshoppers came again, but so also did a red mite which killed the grasshoppers and the farmers had a good crop. By this time there were five more children in the Neufeld family. Abram, John, Aaron, Jacob and Peter. In June of 1884, Johann bought the N1/2 SW 1/4 and S l/2 NW 1/4 30-106-25 W5, from E. Sevatson and A. D. Perkins of the firm of Perkins and Sevatson. What kind of land it was or what the circumstances were is hard to say, but it appears that he got the land for $100. Maybe there were other things involved. Three years later, in November of 1887, he added the adjoining S l/2 SW 1/4 of section 30. He bought it from John H. Morris of Iowa for $500. Whether the family remained on the homestead or moved to this newly purchased land I do not know, but over the next ten or eleven years, Heinrich, Katharine, Margaret, Klass and Gerhard (George) were added to the family. In later years the children gave their birthplace as Windom, Mountain Lake, Delft, etc., but likely they were all born on either of these two farms since most births in -those days took place in the home. And then there always were interests outside the home. Johann was fluent in Russian and English, as well as his native Plautdietsch and German, and so he was able to be of service to newcomers who needed assistance in their business affairs. Although Anna understood English, she never attempted to speak it.
Johann also was a teacher in the Sunday school. On the 4th of June 1883, both Johann and Anna were baptized into the Mennonite Brethren Church at Mountain Lake. In November of 1893, they sold their homestead to Heinrich Janzen for $300. In spite of the 160-acre free homesteads and $3.00 per acre preemptions, there was no real settlement in the Canadian West before the 1890's. This was partly due to the depressed world economy for much of the early period until 1896 when conditions improved. In America, there was plenty of free land much more accessible for settlement, and in a better climate. Not until the 1890's did this land disappear. Even then new areas were placed on the market as Indian Reserves were confiscated and as more marginal land was opened. However, as the message "Go west, young man, Go West" sent more. And yet more farmers from the Eastern States into the west, land in America became scarce. These Eastern farmers had the money to offer good prices for the land, tempting many mid-westerners to sell out and move on to the free homesteads or comparatively cheap land for sale in Canada. Tenant farmers found their rents rising in the Dakotas, Nebraska and Iowa, until they too looked to the cheaper lands in Canada, and the possibility of ownership. With nine boys in the family, Johann Neufeld had likely often thought about their future.
Homesteads, at least in his area, were a thing of the past. But as he saw many of his friends taking advantage of the homesteads being offered on the Canadian prairies, he must have realized that here was an opportunity for his sons to obtain land of their own. He was not a well man, so most likely knew that if he was to do anything it would have to be done soon. He knew some of the conditions he would find in Canada. His cousin, Dedrick Neufeld, had moved to Saskatchewan in 1893, eventually founding the village of Waldheim. Johann's son, Abram, had also seen something of Saskatchewan as a young teen-ager. He had been with a group of men looking at land in the Swift Current area in the early 1890's. And since the early months of 1899, his oldest son, Franz, had been living about three and a half miles northeast of Waldheim. Franz had married in 1895, and after a few years of farming near Mountain Lake, had left for Saskatchewan and applied for a homestead, the NE 1/4 26-42-
Johann and Anna's daughter, Anna, had married Henry Toews in March of 1899 and was settled in Mountain Lake. In 1899, about 157 families left Mountain Lake for Saskatchewan, in long trains carrying their implements, cattle and household goods. That fall, on September 11, 1899, Johann sold his land to Edward Bassett for the sum of $5,000, and again joined a migration. Johann himself did sot apply for a stead but bought some Hudson's Bay land on the same section that his son, Franz was living on. It is not entirely certain whether he bought two quarters or just one. Be that it may, Johann lived only for about seven weeks after this move. He died of TB on the 12th of November 1899, and is buried in an unmarked grave in the Waldheim cemetery. He was forty-nine years old. Johann's sons Abram and John immediately filed re, homesteads but continued to live at home until the spring of 190
Abram states on his homestead application that his parents lived on the SW 1/4 26-42-5, while John said they lived on the NW 1/4 26-42-
The Hudson's Bay Company does not have their records anymore but say that title to the SW 1/4 26 was transferred to George T. Toews of Mountain Lake, Minnesota on the 2nd of July 1907, and that there is no record of it ever belonging to Johann Neufeld. My Mother, Susanna (Unruh) Neufeld told me that Johann Neufeld was buried in the Waldheim cemetery. The Waldheim Village records were destroyed by fire sometime around 1920. His granddaughter, Anna (Neufeld) Peters, (Franz's daughter) told me that she remembered Johann's funeral although she was only about three years old at the time and that she had visited the site many times since. She remembered wanting to ~jump into the grave so that she could be with her grandpa. So Anna Neufeld was left a widow in a new country with a large family to provide for. The youngest child was only four years of age. Her sons Abram and John had taken up homesteads immediately after arriving in Saskatchewan and they lived with her until about 1903 when they left to work in Rosthern. Sometime after this Anna and the seven younger children returned to Mountain Lake. Her mother, Anna Janzen, was most likely still living here, as was also her daughter, Anna Toews. Her sons Franz, Abram, John and Jacob remained behind in Saskatchewan. Franz of course was settled on his homestead with his family. John had married in 1900, Abram was to marry in 1904 and Jacob in 190
After Anna Neufeld's father, Jacob Thiessen died in 1861, her mother, also Anna, married a Neufeld. When this Neufeld died, she was married again, this time to a Frank Janzen. They also lived in or near Mountain Lake. Anna remained at Mountain Lake until 1907 when she married a widower Wilhelm Born, of Hague. (Wilhelm Born lost his first wife on the 26th of November 190
It was the following year that he married Anna Neufeld. I believe that they had known each other in Russia). They returned to Saskatchewan with Anna's four youngest children and seem to have lived in Hague or it's vicinity for a while. The Land Titles Office at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, has the following on file- "On Nov. 21, 1908, title to the NW 1/4 - 26 was transferred to Anna Born of Hague, Sask., Executor of the estate of John Neufeld, deceased". "On the same date Anna Born, Executor of the estate of John Neufeld transferred the NW 1/4-26 to Anna Born in her capacity and she retained title until De. 8, 1917 when it was transferred to the London and Canadian Loan and Agency C. Ltd." Anna and Wilhelm moved to a farm near Waldheim, maybe the above quarter. By early 1919 they were living in the town of Waldheim and around 1920 they moved to Hepburn. Here they had a small house on the west side, north of the bank on First Street, Lot 14.
It was in 1920 that Anna and Wilhelm joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Somewhere around 1924 or 1925, Anna made a trip to Dallas, Oregon, to visit those of her children who had moved there. Then, around 1928, she and Wilhelm moved to Osier. The first distinct memories I have of my grandmother, Anna, are somewhere during the early years of the 1920's when they lived in Hepburn. I remember her as a small person, quick of movement and always wearing a little black cap. Her hands were always busy with something. Her towels and linens were embroidered and edged with hand made lace. I still have a piece of knitted lace to edge the hem of a little girl's petticoat that she made around 192
She made a similar piece for the oldest granddaughter in each family. It always fascinated me to watch her spinning wool on the spinning wheel. She always had a garden in summer filled with all kinds of old fashioned flowers. In fall she would carefully gather their seeds to plant the coming year. Self seeded poppies bloomed among the potato plants. Other memories include seeing her flip pancakes, frying apple rings and her pot-roasted chicken flavored with anise seed. Many times when we stopped in for a short visit she would disappear into the kitchen and in no time at all would have mixed and baked a pan of soft, peppermint flavored cookies for "faspa". She had small, flowered tea plates and a tomato shaped saltshaker that I would have given anything to own. We were always happy when we could go and see Grandma and Grandpa Born. My memories of Wilhelm are not clear, but he was the only grandfather I ever knew. He also was a small man, with a white beard. I do not know if he was able to set broken bones or not, but I do know that he fixed my stiff neck a number of times. Anna died from cancer of the liver on the 18th of July 1931, at the age of 80 years. She is buried in the Osier cemetery, the 47th grave in Row
When she realized that she did not have long to live she made this statement, "I am willing to go and rest for a little while, for soon the Life Giver will come." Of all her children, only her sons Abram and Jacob were present at her funeral. They were the only ones still living in Canada. F.T. Balmar and Dietrich D. Neufeld conducted the funeral. She left to mourn, her husband Wilhelm, eleven children, forty-five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Wilhelm moved back to Hague and in 1932 married a Mrs. Lehn. He died on the 8th of February 1937, and is buried in the Hague cemetery.

4188 He lived on William street which is the same street that my grandpa Neufeld lived on in Killarney, in fact three houses down. His wife was Henry Nickel's sister, who lived at Lena right across from our farm. When John's parents were murdered he was placed in his Uncle Kornelius Neufeld's home and then immigrated with them to Canada in the twenties. He worked in the Kimberly BC for many years and retired in Killarney, Manitoba. John J. Neufeld

4189 His o.s. birth date was 13 Mar 1872. The Balko records say he was born in 1871. His age is given as 1 on the ship passenger list in 1877, which is incorrect. This marriage produced 6 sons and 6 daughters. John J. Neufeld

4191 For a few years John 0 Neufeld had a private dental practice in Eugene, Oregon. Then he was called to join the staff of Loma Linda University. In his twenty years there he helped establish the School of Dentistry and headed anesthetics department. After his wife Margaret died, he married Tracy McKibbin and they spent twelve years in giving health education seminars throughout North America. They also reached out to the Cambodian Refugee Camo in Thailand, working with the People to People program in China, then Borneo and the Philippines where he helped upgrade the medical school. John O. Neufeld

4192 John practiced dentistry in Toppenish, Washington from 1946 to 1979 when he retired. They moved to Selah, Washington and he spent more time with his hobbies of sculpturing and bronze castings. He has a bronze casting in the museum in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It is a figure of his grandparents, his grandfather with the hand plow and his grandmother following behind planting potatoes.
In "Waldheim Remembers the Past" John recalls a little story of his school days in Waldheim, "I remember additional space was needed for school grounds, so the piece of land adjacent to the school was to be cleared of the poplar trees which covered it. A man with a team of horses was hired to remove the trees. This being a slow process, Mr. Berg, our principal, got out his fancy vest calculator, and after intense concentration came out with the conclusion that kid power was just as efficient as horsepower. He attached a long rope, as high as he could manage, and all the children grabbed hold of the rope and pulled out the trees, roots and all! It was more fun than any other school activity."

4207 There is very little that we know about Kornelius Neufeld (1820). He along with his family moved to the village of Sparrau, Molotschna, Russia when he was a six/seven year old boy (1827) from Prussia. A document listing those going out of Prussia states that his father Johann Johann Neufeld left Prussia with six sons and a wife. There is also a step-brother, Jacob J. Wiebe, Esther's son, who lived in Sparrau. My father, A.J. Neufeld, says that Kornelius died at 65 which places his birth in 1820 but the Russian census indicates ca. 1821-2. The birth place is speculation although family tradition says Elbing area. According to family tradition, he came from Prussia to Sparrau when he was twelve years old. Kornelius Neufeld

She enjoyed the new home Manuel built for her in Cordell in 1958. She also enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers.
She was a member of the Cordell Garden Club and a home extension club. She also enjoyed making ceramics.
Having become a Christian as a teenager, Mary was a member of the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church. In later yeas she was a faithful member of the Cordell Bible Mennonite Church. She furnished the flowers for the services for many years.
In August of 1998, she and Manuel moved to Fairview to be close to her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents: three sisters, Katherine Megert, Sarah Shearer, Bertha Gatzke; a brother, Jake Neufeld; and a grandson, John Dennis.
Burial was in the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery at Corn under the direction of the Kiesau Lee Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband, Manuel, of Fairview; a daughter, Sharline Dennis and her husband, Edgar, of Flowery Branch, GA; two sons, Kenneth Flaming and his wife, Sara, of Piedmont, Lawayne Flaming and his wife, Dorene, of Wylie, TX; grandchildren, Julie and Roger Kuykendall of Sugar Hill, GA, Teresa and Wendell Short of Piedmont, Greg and Sandra Flaming of Dallas, TX, Aaron Flaming of Corn, Karissa Flaming of Wylie, TX; great grandchildren April and Stephanie Kuykendall, Nadine Dennis, Jordan, Risa and Andrea Short; sisters, Matilda Sawatzky of Clinton, Minnie Miller of Corn; and a sister in law, Kathryn Neufeld of Corn.

4257 Dad, I think told me there were five girls in this family as well, but I have not found any evidence for her yet, but a school ledger of 1882 lists a son. One of the grandaughters states there is 9, and a great-grandson stated there were eleven children in total. So this boy most likely reached the age of majority but did not live much past that. The School registrar of 1882 lists a Cor. Neufeld with a twelve year old boy named Peter. So we'll list child nine as Peter. Peter K. Neufeld

4258 Some records say he died in 1957.

The children are placed in the order Great Aunt Helen gives them. She names the oldest and youngest but the rest aren't sure. See the letter I have recieved from Jacob Warkentin, Germany. I believe his wife is the grand- daughter. Sara Neufeld Wiebe also lived some with my great-grandfather, her brother, in Kalinovo, Memrik Colony (Abraham C. Neufeld). Sara Neufeld

4278 Brotherfield says he was born 16 Mar 1852. He was a member of the Margenau Church in Russia. He was a wealthy farmer at Brotherfeld, Saskatchewan. Mountain Lake 1877 calls him "Johann" but since he has an older, living brother named Johann, Isaak is much more likely his name. One record says he died in 1884. Mountain Lake 1877 p. 69: Attest from Margenau; "Ist zur Bruedergemeinde uebergetretten 1884" The obituary of son Isaak lists daughters: Mrs. George Loewen, Mrs. Cornelius Friesen, Mrs. Charles C. Gloeckler.
Roy Neufeldt gives his DOD as 6 Jan 1923. Roy Neufeldt writes, "They moved to the Northwest Territories in 1899. In 1899 when they moved to Canada land was move expensive in Minnesota and in Canada they would be eligible for three homesteads and this family needed more land. They settled on three homesteads about thirty miles West of Rostern which was their nearest Post Office and Rail Station. Here they established fine family orchards of apples, cherries and different kinds of berries that they had brought with them from Minnesota. They were good farmers and established good farms and later added more land to their holdings.
The elder Isaac lived on his homestead until he sold it and moved to Waldheim which now had a Post Office and a Railroad Station and was about 10 miles from the homestead. He lived in Waldheim until he died of cancer in 1923. He is buried at Brotherfield Cemetery about three miles from the homestead. After his death Aganetha lived with her son Isaac and his family for about a year and then lived with her daughters Susie and Elizabeth for several years and then again with her son Isaac and his family until her death in 1927. Aganetha is buried in the same plot with her husband.
His Zionsbote obituary gives birthdate of 16 March and marriage of 9 Nov. He was a member of the Margenau Church in Russia. He was a wealthy farmer at Brotherfeld, Saskatchewan. Mountain Lake 1877 calls him "Johann" but since he has an older, living brother named Johann, Isaak is much more likely his name. One record incorrectly says he died in 1884. Mountain Lake 1877 p. 69: Attest from Margenau; "Ist zur Bruedergemeinde uebergetretten 1884" The obituary of son Isaak lists daughters: Mrs. George Loewen, Mrs. Cornelius Friesen, Mrs. Charles C. 4284 I am proposing that there was a single Neuman family progenitor for the families in the Tragheimerweide Church. 4458 Is he related to the Jacob Pauls shown at Alexanderthal #13 on the 1917 map in Huebert's Atlas?
Why are their births shown in Alexanderthal years before the following:
Franz Pauls moved from Prangenau to Alexanderthal during the 1861-62 school year, according to school records. The names of his children from his first wife are taken from these records. The 1883-84 school records show the family still living in Alexanderthal. There is information on his move from Alexanderkrone? in SAOR Fond 6 Opis 4 Delo 21109.

4524 Edward farmed at Orienta, Oklahoma.
Fairview Republican - 2-23-2006 and Enid News & Eagle - 2-22-2006:
Funeral services for Edd A. Penner, 91, of Fairview will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at the First Baptist Church, Fairview, OK. Reverend Clyde Irving will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church of God Cemetery northwest of Fairview. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Viewing will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and at the church Thursday, prior to the service.
Edward Edd A. Penner was born on August 27, 1914 to Aaron A. and Mary (Kasper) Penner on their farm northwest of Fairview and passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at the Fairview Fellowship Home, Fairview, OK.
Edd attended Valley Center grade school and graduated from Fairview High School in 1936. He furthered his education at Enid Business College and graduated in 1938. As a young man of 14 years, Edd joined his older brothers band, the “Gloss Mountain Hawaiians” and played on KCRC radio in Enid. Edd had a lifetime love and appreciation for music. He could play several stringed instruments and had a lovely tenor voice.
He married Florence Kiefer at her parent's home outside of Ames on May 28, 1939, and they enjoyed more than 66 years of wedded bliss. Three children were born to this union: one son, Harold, and two daughters, Betty and Shirley. Edd had many interests, but farming was his first and foremost. He served on the Orienta Co-op Board for 18 years and held the office of secretary. He bought his first airplane in 1947 and enjoyed flying for the next 29 years. He was the first person to land a plane at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. He was a member of the Oklahoma Flying Farmers Association and served a term as the Vice President. He was a skilled carpenter and painter and worked on many homes in the Fairview area. He attended Church of God in Fairview for many years.
Edd loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was never too busy to give rides on his tractor, tell a story, go fishing, or take a walk through the pasture, reminding the kids “not to step in Grandpa's gravy.” He was a kind and gentle man who never knew a stranger.
Edd is survived by his loving wife, Florence, of the home; son, Harold and wife Gay, of Fairview; daughter Betty Cottom and husband Marvin of Oklahoma City, daughter Shirley Hardin and husband Ben, of Austin, TX; six grandchildren: Cindy Borden and husband Jon of Oklahoma City, Sonda Penner of Fairview, Darren Cottom and wife Polly of Mutual, OK, Scott Penner and wife Lori of Fairview, Steve Cottom and wife Heather of Oklahoma City, and Brad Wares and wife Erin of Austin, TX; 10 great-grandchildren: Kyle, Jandolyn, and Mackenzie Borden, Cody and Julia Cottom, Savannah and Summer Cottom, Danielle and Robert Wares, and Kacie Penner; four step-grandchildren; two brothers, Neal of Enid and Dan of Medora, KS; and two sisters, Eunice Isaak of Fairview and Lois Peters of Enid.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry, Aaron and John; two sisters, Salome Eck and Julia Roberts; and one grandson.
The family would like to thank Edd's caregivers, Dr. Crowe, and Dr. Ali, and the staffs of the Fairview Fellowship Home and Fairview Regional Medical Center for the loving care shown to Edd during his last few years.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Church of God Cemetery or charity of choice.

4532 She is Johann Neufeld's third wife. She appears to have been married previously to a Jacob Penner. At the Neufeld household in 1835 is a Jacob Jacob Penner, b. abt. 1810. He appears to have been her son by this previous marriage. If so, it is possible that her maiden name was not Penner, but was something else. 4704 Ph.D in entomology. Professor at Oklahoma State University.
Washita County Enterprise - 5-25-2006:
Don Clayton Peters, age 74, died June 19, 2006 at his home in Stillwater. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the First United Methodist Church on June 3, at 4:00 p.m.
Don was born near Corn, on September 1, 1931, the youngest of the six children of David C. and Lena (Bartel) Peters. He began his education at Pleasant View rural school and graduated from Corn Bible Academy in 1949, and from Tabor College, Hillsboro, KS in 1953 with an A. B. degree in biology.
Don met Frieda Dick from Ferndale, WA at Tabor and they were married on July 14, 1953. They lived at Manhattan, KS (1953-1957) while Don attended Kansas State University and received his MS and PhD degrees in entomology. After teaching at Tabor College in the spring of 1957, Don became Assistant Professor of Entomology at the University of Missouri. In 1959 they moved to Iowa State University where he worked in the Department of Zoology and Entomology. On January 1, 1971, Don joined the faculty at Oklahoma State University as Professor and Head of Entomology. Don left administration in the spring of 1984 and focused on green bug research until his retirement in March 1997.
Don knew God loved us. He was baptized and became a member of the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church in October 1945. Don and Frieda attended the United Presbyterian Church in Manhattan; the Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia; the First Baptist Church in Ames; and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Stillwater at the time of his death. He was a faithful member and part of the teaching cycle for the Richardson Sunday School class and had served on a number of the church's boards and committees. He had served on the Oklahoma Conference Board of Higher Education and the Board of Global Missions (elected as vice-chair this last term.) He also served as Dean of the Conference School of Christian Missions.
Don loved to tell people about how just after becoming a full professor at Iowa State, his mother asked him, “When are you going to get a job?” She knew he had grown up enjoying playing with insects and therefore entomologists didn't really work! He joined the Entomological Society of America and was active in a variety of its activities at the Branch and national level. He served on the Governing Board from 1973 to 1976. The Society honored him by electing him an Honorary Member in 1999. The Southwestern Branch recognized his life-time contribution with the Te Que Ne Whap award in 2002. He also served as President of the Central States Entomological Society and the Rocky Mountain Entomological Conference.
He authored, often together with his students, almost 100 papers and book chapters and presented professional papers at regional, national and international entomological and plant protection meetings.
Don joined the Stillwater Rotary Club in 1972. He served as Treasurer 1980-1983 and Club President 1983-84. He was District Governor in 1999-2000. He and Frieda attended International Rotary Conventions in Toronto, Indianapolis, Buenos Aires, and Singapore.
Frieda passed away in 2005 and he is survived by their three children, spouses, and children, David and Sara Peters and Rachel of Stillwater; Katheryn and Barry Dagestino, and Nicholas of Anaheim Hills, CA; John and Susan Peters and Kathryn and Joshua of Plano, TX. Also surviving are: one brother and two sisters, and four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Judith Karman Hospice, PO Box 818, Stillwater, OK 74076.

The emigration records indicate that was also accompanied by his nephew, Benjamin Voth. He probably arrived in the Molotschna Colony in the fall of 1834 and then settled in Gnadenfeld in the Molotschna Colony in 1835. He isn't listed in the 1835 Molotschna Colony Census. They remained there for 42 weeks. In 1834 they moved to South Russia, arriving in the Molotschna Mennonite colony, in Friedensdorf, 23 September (alten stil). 4980 (A-14) The first Ratzlaff in our group. His first name is not known; he was motivated, after hearing a sermon, to thrust his sword into a hedgepost and break it. Was baptized and accepted our religion, and took the daughter of Elder Voth from Culm for his wife. The Alexanderwohl records indicate that his family may have come from Sweden.

4981 (A-23) A rough draft sheet in the Alexanderwohl records indicates that he was married three times, and that his son Berent was from the 1st. marriage, son Hans from the second, and the rest of the children from the third. He was quite rich, and was a deacon in the church. His date of death is inconsistent with the birth of most of the children born to his third marriage.

4986 (A-183) The Alexanderwohl records do not indicate whether this son is by the first or second wife. I have listed him arbitrarily under the first wife .
